Post subject: Drill option -- DESKI / WEBI

I have two tables (both the tables are same)having columns like Org level and Total employess.

I represent one table in tabular form and the other in Graphical representation(Pie chart)

I would like to drill on the org level so that the total no of employees are shown at each level.

Below are the data.

Org Total

1 10

When i drill down to second level

Org Total
11 5
12 5

When i drill to third level by clicking 11

Org Total
110 2
111 3

I deski when i drill on the table only the table drills , not the graph below.
If i need to drill on the graph i need to click on the graph and drill separately and not the whole report
is drilled out.

This is the what even i am expecting in Web Intelligence.

In Webi if i try to drill on the graph even the table is drilled down but not the expected way

Suppose if i drill on the graph for third level

the graph shows the following details in Pie chart.

110 2
111 3
This is correct

But why is drill applied on the other table?

The other table shows the below data which is incorrect.

Org Total
1 5

1) why is it appling drill on the whole report instead of the specific graph?
2) Even if it drills down on the table automatically when i drill on the graph

I expect the following data

org Total
110 2
111 3

instead of which i get

org Total

1 5

Could somebody explain me on this

Hi DWH,

In your InfoView Preferences on the WebI tab in the General drill options, you have probably got 'Synchronize drill on report blocks' checked which is why your tables and graphs all drill together. Uncheck it and they should work separately.

Let me know if I have misunderstood.

Cheers,

Steve

steve,

You understood my problem correctly.

But the option" synchronise drill to report blocks" is already unchecked. i checked the preferences.

Then why is it still drilling down on both the tables.

Any other suggestions

so table should drill but graph should stay the same?
try a work-around: duplicate query
use q1 with drills for table and q2 without drills for graph
this could mean a longer time on retrieving the data

sounds like the option 'drill sync.. to report blocks' doesnt mean between blocks but between drillfilters and all blocks

I tried your suggestion of different queries already.

Still both the graph and table drills .

I believe what is happening is that you are getting a filter when you drill, and the filter is being applied to all blocks whether they are drilled or not. That is why the table values are filtered but not drilled when you drill on your chart.

Dave,

I dont understand this concept.

In DeskI only the selected table gets drill down. Not everything in the report.
In Webi it applies drill on all the tables in the report even though i try to apply drill only on the table and not the graph. Is the WEBI drill down feature itself is like that or am i doing something wrong.

Can you please help me in understanding this?

I'm not sure how to say it any differently from what has already been said.

Deski
When you have a report with two blocks and you activate drill, you must pick a block.
The other block is no longer visible.

Webi
You have options for "sync drill" set at the user level. This feature is either on or off.
You can drill on one block without drilling on another block if the "sync drill" feature is off.
Yet if you drill on one block, the other block is still filtered because it is on the same report.

so with drillfilters and one univers you cannot seperate graph from table?
would it be possible to 'fake' the graph data
i mean to use variables to calculate the total trying to make it not depend on drillfilters?

I don't really know. icon_smile.gif I didn't try to set up an example report and test my theories. I am not sure setting up a second query would work either. The main difference between Webi and Deski is Webi lets you drill on a multi-block report.
