My first question to you is 'How do you know there are duplicates?'. The answer you give should be a guide to the solution you are going to need...

I have a report and it has mutiple stmt numbers and VIN8 numbers.
They are supposed to be one record for each transaction but we have mutiple of them.
I know the data is like that in the Datbase. but the user want only a single record for VIN8 and STMT number. so he wants to eliminate the records that are repeating. but he wants to do it by looking at the records. Lets say we have a total of 14 record. by eliminating the duplicate we have only 7 records. He want to see what are the 7 records that are duplicate of the 14 records.
I hope i have answered your question

A mini sketch:

Look at the Business Objects Reporter functionality of:
1) Count with input contexts --> Count of records (multiple instances will have a count > 1)
2) Create another variable: Count > 1 --> TRUE or FALSE
3) Ranking --> Rank your dimensions against this TRUE/FALSE variable
