BOB has retired moved! Our current platform (the one you are reading right now) is over 18 years old. Rather than continue here, the community has moved to a new software platform! We are excited about the move and hope that you'll come with us.

The new community URL is https://bobj-board.org/.

User accounts have not been converted. In order to participate on the new platform you will need to create a new account. Existing posts have been retroactively assigned to your user name, but are associated with an anonymous account. No personal information (email address and so on) has been transferred to the new platform.

If you have any questions, the "About BOB" forum will remain open for the remainder of 2020, at which point it will be replaced by a static page directing folks to the new community.

Thank you for your support and participation for the past 18 years.

By BOB, this forum was a great help as a BI junior for the past 5 years. Even just as reader.

Sad times.

This forum has been a massive help to me and its a shame to see it go, although I know what goes into maintaining a forum being a committee member myself previously.

Thankfully on the forum I ran, there has been people willing to take over when it was time for the current committee to step down. But it wasn't always easy to find people willing to take on the responsibility or for that matter, who you could trust.

Thank you for your efforts to date in keeping this going.

This is very sad news icon_sad.gif

As a user of Business Objects for less than two years this site has proved invaluable to me icon_eek.gif

Say it aint so Joe (Dave) icon_sad.gif

I haven't been coming around as much as I used to but like others have been diversified in many different technologies but BO was my first love and spending many mornings going thru the board an addictive hobby. In my 14 years I still cant think of single better BI forumn (not just BO forumn) then this one. I will definitely try to contribute to BOB 2.0 effort as much I can.

Wow I will really miss BOB if it retires! I have used it since 2002 when I first started working with BusinessObjects and now 18 years later I'm still here!

I feel like I know a lot of the regular posters even though I have never met them! (apart from Nick Daniels who wont remember but I worked with briefly about 13 years ago!)

Thanks for everything!

Claire

In 1997, I installed my very first WebI 1.3 server at the Pentagon Navy Annex. In 1999, after retiring I was hired by Bernard from Business Objects as a “consultant”. I knew NOTHING, other than to hit the setup button. But I was in love with the semantic layer. All these years, over and over, in hundreds of gigs, I have used this resource. It was a life saver so many times in real world scenarios. It is sad to see it go.

I don’t really agree that Business Objects is obsolete. There are still literally thousands of deployments around the world and in the US. Especially in the government. We just did a massive DHA upgrade recently of AIX BOE4.2. One of the hardest environments to work with. The semantic layer is still alive and well. There still very few replacements for a robust enterprise solution that offers the same security and reporting capability.

Regardless, thank you for providing this resource for so long.

Respectfully

So Sad to hear this news,

BOB has been invaluable to me and my colleagues over the years and still is, even answers to questions regarding old versions can be still relevant to current versions of BO, can the static version be kept for longer or is it possible to get an off line copy?

Is its a matter of cost or time that the board is closing? is it possible for someone else to step in and take on some of this cost or work load?

Please DM me so we can have a chat about this, I'm @TheAbductee on twitter

Thanks

Andy

Very sad news. I was active on BOB until few years ago. Learned so much thanks to BOB. My posts on BOB got me a new job in 2013. I had answered a guy on this forum who interviewed me later and recognized me from my posts on this forum. Thank you.

Any updates on getting a new community together? I really need a forum like this for the foreseeable future...

Julien,
Thanks greatly for those excel/vba's. As a repository display mechanism there is none better. They saved my butt many times.
