[Moderator Note: Moving from Web Intelligence to Security - MichaelWelter]

First, you will need to integrate BusinessObjects with your Authentication system (e.g., AD, LDAP, etc.). Then, you will need to implement Single Sign On (SSO) for BusinessObjects. You can find the instructions for both of these in the Administrators guide.

Once you do this, you will be able to pass report URLs from other applications, and bypass the sign on screen.

The only problem with using the Single Sign-on that's documented in the administrators guide is that it's not very secure.

Anyone who knows what their doing (or even those who don't) can easily manipulate the login process and pretend to log in as someone else.

For example, if you have two users, one a normal user (e.g. a sales person) and one manager, the normal user can log in as the manager and be able to have manager-level access to data.

If you want to do this correctly and securely, you'll have to implement your own SSO solution. I can walk you through this if you'd like.

This a project we are recently led here.
1 ) Set up your SSO eg : with mapped Windows NT groups from the enterprise active directory (this solution has been applied here)
2 ) open reports with parametered URL (opendoc.aspx i think)

-> For increased security add a security layer in BO
User use SSO to sign in Business Objects and then their entreprise user have specific rights on specific files/folders

This way even if a user plays with the URL, that user wouldn't get quite fa

Mike,

We are working on a project to call a BOBJ report from a SharePoint server without having to log on any additional times. You mentioned a secure SSO method in your posting. Can you walk me through how to implement?

We are using SharePoint 2010, BOBJ XI 3.2 and Xcelsius 2008.

Thanks,
Pat Cavanaugh

Look at running these reports the other way - you can load a sharepoint / BO library on the Sharepoint box, hit these reports from within the Sharepoint framework directly...

Just a thought - it may be a more supportable path.

Pat, the steps for implementing SSO are in the Administrators guide.

As you have described the client requirement, I understand that the client launches the BO report from a custom application and he does not want to give the user credentials while opening the report.

In this case you can use open document, which includes the authentication in the URL itself. Please let me know if this is the requirement, then I can guide you further. This is much easier that seting up an SSO with AD.

Hi Max,

Can you please guide me how to avoid login thru open document. We have a similar requirement, but haven't implemented SSO. But your solution sounds simpler. Would like to use, till we implement SSO. Thank you.

Is there any chance you could help us with this as we are trying to do the same thing.

Many thanks in advance.

In relation to this topic (thought this was a good place to ask), does anyone know if it is possible to change the landing page in Infoview using BO XI Enterprise so that when a user opens Infoview from Clarity and clicks the 'Click Here to Open Infoview' link, it will land on the document list page rather than the Infoview home page? It looks like you are able to do this as an individual user in your own personal preferences, but we are looking for options on a system-wide configuration for this so that it will affect all users simultaneously. Been having trouble finding any good documentation so far...

Any help is much appreciated!!

We have a similar situation.

Need to bypass the login screen from custom java application.

For this we tried "Trusted authentication" in BO 4.0. It worked fine.

Now we are asked to use SAML token to do the same (by architects)

BO admin guide gives a simple code snippet for web.xml to be updated as their example, but it is not very clear to me (as i am not a Java person). could anybody explain how to set up this Web.xml to make SAML authentication work?

Trusted authentication is a right solution. I used it a couple of times and it works fine.
