Post subject: SLOW SAPBI4 with SAP BW

Scenario:
SAP BW 7.3 SPS7 and SAP BI BusObjects 4.0 SP4 Patch 4 on Linux Server w/ 32 GB RAM, Tomcat/Apache

Issue: In BI Launchpad/JAVA panel it takes 10-30 sec. for the Webi query panel to come up when going directly (via BICS) against an SAP BEx query.
We have split the APS (DSL etc.) and sized accordingly (max JAVA Heap size), note: I am essentially the only user working on this system for now.

Questions:
1. What can be done to speed up the time until the query panel shows up?
2. The transient universe: Where is it stored? Is there any caching mechanism that can be adjusted?
3. Also, it looks like the LOVs are also not cached (when accessing SAP BEx queries directly/via BICS). Any way to speed up the LOVs?

Thanks in advance,
Andreas

We're experiencing the same on Sp2 and were hoping that upgrading to SP4 or SP5 would resolve this icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm not actively involved on the BW side but my collegue who was, is on leave now and might be able to xplain in more detail what has been tried to date i.e. I know that on the BW side they had to cache data, make free characteristic adjustments to avoid additional data fetches and that the date filters could not be global (?)

Looked at: http://scn.sap.com/message/13220199#13220199

And split the APS accordingly but are looking to do a full trace on his return.

Hello,

We are on BO 4.0 SP5 Patch 4 and noticing the same issue, it takes long time to open the report panel and after that executing the query will take significant amount of time..

BICS query runs in seconds and report overall takes 4 to 5 minutes to give the results.. Strange part is in the development where we dont have the APS split reports are running as expected, returning in seconds..

But in the environment where we have the APS split we are noticing this issue..

Anybody figured out a solution for this issue ?

Thanks
Raj

Do you have an /etc/hosts file entry for the server or perhaps multiple entries for the server? I had an issue with applet load time on Linux due to hosts file issue but the load time was 5-6 minutes in my case.

10 - 30 seconds load time for the WebI Java applet is normal. In 4.1 SP3, they made several changes to the .jar package that makes up that applet. It loads about 50-70% faster depending on the bandwidth between the server and client. Do you see the same behaviour when using the HTML WebI applet in the 4.0 build?

The 4.1 SP3 "What's New" guide contains more information:
