Hi BOB Board Folks,
We are looking into moving from BI4.1 SP6 Patch 4 to BI4.2 SP4 Patch 3.
How long has your update process taken when going from 4.1 to 4.2? I mean the actual running of the update package? A couple hours? days?
Thank you,
Mark |

Ha - we just did an almost identical upgrade: from BI4.1 SP06 Patch 5 to BI4.2 SP04 Patch 3.
It took a while. I didn't actually time it but I think it was in the 45 minute range each for the SP04 and the Patch 3 installation.
We have a split Apache / Tomcat deployment, so I had to run wdeploy in split mode after the installation was complete. In the past, in BI4.1, this took at most 90 minutes for some reason this one took over two hours. |

I have another question. I would like to install BO 4.1 SP9 Server? Is it necessary to download only the 4.1 SP9 server packages or should I install it from SP1 cumulativ to SP9? |

Hi,
There should be an installation file just for SP9 for those that upgrade from 4.1 SPn to SP9. And there should also be a full build for 4.1 SP9. So you need to be careful which one you download and install.
For the latter, I think you don't need to install SP1, SP2, ... SP9. Just thes full build of SP9 that already contains all previous SPs.
Why don't you, however, install the latest version 4.2 SP4 or SP5? _________________ BO: BI 4.0, 4.1 | XI 3, 3.1 | XI r2 | 6.x | 5.x

Thank you for the many replies.
We want to test the 4.1 SP9 and then we are planning to migrate to 4.2.
I want to install 4.2 directly too but the instruction is to install 4.1 SP9 first. |

For the testing of 4.1 SP9, i have a second server. The productive Server runs on 4.1 SP6.
Should I install at the second server first SP6 then copy the CMS and IFR/OFR Files and then migrate the second server to SP9 or can I install directly SP9 at the second server and then copy the cms and ifr/ofr files?
Can you help me please? |

I'd also allow a lot of time for testing reports if you're moving up to SP3 - it has a calculation engine change and they're often the most painful part (4.1 SP2 to 4.1 SP3 anybody?) of a migration. You could be fortunate and they've got it right this time but better to be cautious than sorry. _________________ Current version I'm using: 4.1 SP3 over Oracle. I have to say that my recent upgrade from BI4.1 SP06 to BI4.2 SP04 was the first one I've done in over 10 years that did not require report modification because of calculation engine changes. |

That is great to know. You come to just expect some level of post-upgrade modification. |
