Post subject: Search facility

Why is it that the search facility doesn't always bring back all / any topics when I know for sure that they exist and that my wording in the search box is correct (I have tested it)?

Hi,

There are certain keywords that are excluded from being indexed. The reason is that they can appear in almost all posts and the result of the search would not be useful if it gave you hundreds of hits.

Check the "Keywords Stopped" part in the search result page. Maybe the keywords that you use are those that are stopped.

We started to create a "full text" index a while back for testing, so we can drop the standard search and pass straight through to the MySQL search. However, it seems that even MySQL has stop words, and ignores text strings less than 3 characters, so we still can't search for version numbers. icon_rolleyes.gif

As already mentioned, please provide an example of a search you are trying to do, and I'll see what's going on.

search was 'drill down on measure objects'. I had just read a post labelled exactly that then tested the search on it as I knew that it didn't always seem to work.

Yup, you've discovered a bug that was reported a while back that has not been identified / fixed yet. icon_smile.gif Leave the word "on" out and you'll get search results.

Small words (3 letters or less) are supposed to be removed. For some reason, the search algorithm is not completely removing them in some cases and that messes up the search. If you search "drill measure object" you get results.
