Post subject: Modify web.xml to define clusters

I read it from a documentation that we need to modify the web.xml to define clusters. Why is it required? What happens if we skip this step? Thanks!

1. Open the web.xml:
In a default deployment on Tomcat 5.5 the file is located in the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\webapps\Platform
Services\WEB-INF

2. Locate the following section in the file:
<!-- EXAMPLE:
<context-param>
<param-name>cms.clusters</param-name>

3. List the name of each cluster.

if you look at your default web.xml, it will only show one login CMS - the default CMS. The idea is to use a macro name, your cluster name (the @name you use in your CMSs) - then you define a clusters file that defines the individual CMSs.

If you don't do this, you're tying yourself to one CMS, not the group of CMS servers you should have defined. In my case I have two -my clusters file specifies both of these by name and port. If one is not available, it fails over to the second.

Make sense? Search on my name, I have my web.xml and clusters file in another message here somewhere....

Good luck,
Brent
