We are having an issue with Xcelsius 2008 on Windows XP for a user who is not an administrator. According to the Installation Guide:
| Quote: | | Note: You must install Xcelsius under a Windows user account that has Administrator privileges. |
We did the install with a user that has administration privileges, but then when a non-administrator logged into the PC, they are prompted to enter the key code which effectively prevents any non-administrator from using the software. Has anyone else run into this issue? Other than hacking the registry, is there a potential resolution? |

The user gets a prompt stating "Your Xcelsius keycode is missing or expired. Please enter your Xcelsius keycode:" After entering the keycode, the user gets the message box "The keycode you entered in not valid. Please try again."
This is a false error. The user does not have permission to write to the registry key to store the keycode. There are two solutions we have found:
#1 When installing the software, run Xcelsius one time under the administrative user who installs the software. This user will be prompted to enter the keycode and has permissions to write the keycode to the registry. Non-administrators can read the registry key and run Xcelsius.
#2 Logon to the machine with administrator rights. Run regedit and go to the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE--> SOFTWARE --> Business Objects --> Suite 12.0" Right click on Suite 12.0 and choose Permissions. Grant Full Control to the Users group for this key. Non-administrators can now write to the key and enter the keycode themselves. |
