Post subject: passing dates from xml request into query

I have table that has effective dates and I want to pass in the date range using a XML request.

When I add both the table and the xml message to the DF and join them using sourcetable.date>=message.startdate it does a cartesian join between the source message and the source table.

How can I put the values from the xml message into my query?
