Hi All,
I heard that users can ask intelligent questions using question domains and the tool Question Designer is being used to create question domains using Universes. Can anyone please provide me more details on this? Basically i am looking for the following information
1) Is it a separate application or it comes with BO XI R2?
2) Do we need separate license to use this application or could we use BO XI R2 license for this too?
3) Can we get trial version of the same from BO site?
Regards,
Sabari |

I actually thought that BO had dumped the Intelligent Question app due to lack of take up, but I could be wrong.
It is/was a bolt on to XI and you would need to purchase a licence for it.
As for demo version, probably best to talk to your BO account manager in the first place. _________________ Arjan Plessius

yes, I haeard also about this tools in a presentation regarding bo XIR2 some years ago and see it in a BusinessObjects PDF technical doc. Hhave installed several POC on XIR2 SP but never got the product. And lattely, at the new BOXI3 show in Paris, they never focused on this so I wonder if the product still exists. _________________ Bernard TIMBAL DUCLAUX de MARTIN

The product IQ has been retired as far as I am aware.
Look at Polestar instead. _________________ Follow me on Twitter

If they don't have product in there recent releases, then how they are providing all the installation information and development informations? How could we try that without having actual product? Or it is something like they had this product in their older versions and now they are not interested in this product so they didn't included it in their new release?
At least anyone of you GURUs used this product? |

As per the document, question domains are being created from universes. So i thought this would be right place to ask about this product. Sorry for the inconvenience caused

When I read the document on Question Designer, i was happy because this is what our customers are expecting. But now i am totally disappointed after hearing this. |

Think twice before relying on Polestar in a product environment. The product is in version beta to me: you will find that Polestar (available with release 3.1) does not release licenses/close sessions after indexing, that scheduling is simply not working, that SSO is not supported, that universe contexts are not supported (quite a limitation when you intendd to display numerous metrics in Polestar!), that Universe row level security is not supported, etc...
Not a very integrated product overall... well nowehere near where Intelligent Question was.
My 2 cents _________________ Lead Data Architect, Synchrony Global |

Not sure what version of Polestar you were looking at, have you looked at is latest upgrade? Now known as Explorer.
It was demonstrated at the Mastering Business Objects Conference in Sydney last week and honestly I thought that it looked quite good.
I will however admit that I have not looked at the app, so I can't comment about the integrations issues that you're having. _________________ Arjan Plessius

AP - Almost a year later and we have XIr3.1 and YES we have SAP BusinessObjects Explorer and it works a treat. Fully integrated AD, can upload excel spreadsheets and the indexer is amazing. Great for some of those multi million row transaction tables.....
Did not like my linked universe and did not index where there was an outer-join. But they were easy things to get around.
I saw the other day it is being used as part of the on-demand product.
I think it is a great tool and will become part of our service delivery options. |
