Post subject: Union single row

I am loading a company table using a query transform and would like to union a single record with an id of -1, signifying an 'empty' company. The merge transform requires two sources, and so i do not think it is what I need here. In my old Stored Procedures I currently use to do my load, it was easy, but I am a little fuzzy on how to union one row with a table with DI.

Thanks for your help,
Rich

You merge a Row_Generation+Query with the other data. In the Query you set all your defaults for this one row.

I have stripped down a Rapid Mart to just a couple of DFs to demonstarte how we think building ETL jobs is a good idea (see attachment).

A couple of things to highlight:
    * A xxxx_Section always contains one Star Schema, in this case all the SAP Cost bookings.
    * A C_xxx is a Component which is a reusable object. It contains all other Components that are needed before you can load that. e.g. C_Cost_Center requires C_ControllingArea.
    * Components might be called multiple times, e.g. in different xxx_Sections or as the C_Controlling_Area once as dependant object, once as a dimension by its own. Therefore all Components have the property "execute only once" checked.

Oops, this is version 11. Guess i'll have to upgrade from 6.5.1 before I can look at this. icon_smile.gif

I've frequently felt that the challenge with using DI -- any maybe any ETL tool -- is having a set of patterns or "best practices" to choose from.

Each time I go to do something new, I'm starting from scratch. If there were better samples (perhaps like what you attached above), it would help bring users up-to-speed more quickly, and reduce BO's tech support costs.
