You shouldn't need to re-create security, but you will need to migrate content (folders, universes, etc.) and users/groups at the same time in order for security to be migrated.

The way I handle the migration when I'm dealing with LDAP or AD authentication for my clients is this:

1. Configure the third-party authentication in the destination system. Test it with a single group to make sure it's working. Then delete all groups from the configuration screen, leaving just the setup part of the configuration. DO NOT schedule automatic updates yet!

2. Migrate user groups and users from the old system to the new one. They should come in to the new system and add the appropriate groups to the LDAP or AD authentication screen automatically.

3. Go back to the authentication configuration screen after all groups have been migrated. Schedule the periodic updates.

Using this method, all of the users and user groups will have the CUID values that match what they were in the source system and security will match up correctly. Usually, users and groups are one of the first things I migrate and then I include security when I'm migrating batches of content.

If you're migrating content, you need to be logged in to both system as Administrator, not as a user with Administrator rights.

When I migrate systems like this, I do it in several "batches".

Batch 1: Users, User Groups, Access Levels, Calendars, Events.
Batch 2: Universes and Connections, Server groups if they exist.
Batch 3: Public reports and folders. This may be split into multiple batches if there are many reports.
Batch 4: Public Categories if they are in use.
Batch 5: Users again so that personal folders update with the correct links from shortcuts to the reports in the public folders.

For each batch, include security.

I'm a consultant and I've done @30 installs, upgrades, and migrations in the last 5 years. This is the process that I've found that works for getting as much set up in the destination as I can.

For the upgrade from 3.1 to 4.x, you also have to be aware that a number of the specific rights for the Webi application and content has changed. When you migrate access levels or Advanced security that contain them, they'll show as "Unknown Right" in the new system.

I used to have a document that mapped the old rights to the new ones, but I can't find it right now.

Hi Hilfy,
thanks alot!
SAME way I done the Migration on batch wise multiple times
in the same order. except the
Batch 1: Users, User Groups, Access Levels, Calendars, Events.
remaining all important t content I have moved to new version.
finally after moving the Usergroup also . I am unable to give access to end user.
LDAP configuration is also done.

I am getting below error.
while
Your security profile does not include permission to edit this document.( ERR_WIS_30252)(WIS 30252)
should i re-configure the User security part.
or
any thing new access security level should be added in BI4.2
Will existing 3.1 security will work in 4.2 or not??

regards,
Ravi.
